The August Board of Directors minutes were approved as corrected. Barbara Read has moved out of town and is no longer a member of the TAT Board. Ted Mize, Old Town, has replaced Ron Warman.
David Leamon reported that the request to the city council for funding for Washburn-Lane Parkway met with approval. They approved $90,000 for the CIP for the year 2000. That combined with the $10,000 from the Library and the Friends of the Library gives the TurnAround Team $100,000 for the lighting project.
David and Joe Swalwell will meet with John Dugan on Monday and will contact Jeff Hunt and Edie Snethen and others who may be involved. All of us need to be prepared to talk to council members.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Jim Gardner who was very supportive of this proposal.
Ideas were presented on other means of funding we can pursue such as the Transportation Enhancement Program from the KDOT, Washburn University, etc. We also discussed possibilities for markers as called for in the plan.
David wrote Bill Fiander to request that a traffic study be done along Washburn-Lane.
Joe Swalwell will check on the corporate status of the TurnAround Team.
Danny Felton is asking for assistance to commemorate Topeka's 150th anniversary such as a city flag. Joe will give Danny names to contact.
Suggestions were made on how the TurnAround Team might formally recognize and commend those individuals and/or entities along the Parkway making improvements that will enhance the area. Those specifically mentioned are at 14th & Lane, 15th & Washburn and 17th & Washburn. Discussion was held on how we might be able to utilize the empty lot north of the Dillon's store and/or mutually beautify the area for the good of all interested parties.
Meeting adjourned.
