TurnAround Team, Inc Board Meeting - May 12, 2005

In attendance: Christy Davis, Deborah Swank, Rob Banks, David Leaman, Betty Dunhaupt, Karen Hiller, Don Rice, Gail Kenefake , Delores Smith

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Deborah Swank at 7:10 p.m. Robert Haggard stopped by to pick up the camera Karen Hiller had borrowed from Wolfes Camera for the filming of the Aaron Douglas Mural Dedication.

Betty Dunhaup moved the board accept the mural as painted, Christy Davis seconded and the board approved the mural as painted, to pay the artists, to accept Dave Lebermanns 1st. Right of refusal on any future repairs needed and to keep all film, records, correspondence, photographs, or anything pertaining to the mural at the Topeka Shawnee County Library.

Christy Davis reported the story boards would not be done in time for the dedication but a plan with the library was devised to prepare temporary substitute boards for the dedication night.

The plan is to have four permanent story boards. Karen reported 60-65 persons had taken part in the painting.

The landscape plan designed by Bill Riphahan was discussed along with the addition of water added and the sidewalks. David Leaman has been working with Mr. Riphahan and will contact a cement contractor to try to have the work finished before the mural dedication. Parks and Recreation will install the planting. The board voted to approve the landscape project including adding water and sidewalks as designed.

The Dedication ceremony was discussed. Gail has been contacting singing groups and will have decisions by a committee meeting at Varsity Blues Monday the 16th at 5:15 p.m. Gail also reported the church would loan tables and chairs for the function. Delores felt we would need about four tables and 25-30 chairs. Deborah said she would contact the city about using their stage platform for the function. David agreed to ask the two performers who provided music at the kick-off function to perform. David and Rob showed the invitation which is being prepared for the dedication ceremony. It was suggested the invitation should read “bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets” if possible. Second option was to ask the newspaper to publish the announcement with that information. Delores reported she was organizing refreshments that would fit on a napkin and punch or some sort of drink. David and Karen are working on the agenda regarding speakers and recognition.

Deborah reported Mark Schreiner had advised her Torgensons should have their Bond papers needed by Wednesday of next week and they should begin working on the Washburn/Lane Parkway with 30 days.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
