The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Deborah Swank at 7 PM.
Don Taylor and Jim Turner will coordinate to get the Annual Report submitted to the Secretary of State. They will work on the IRS-990 filing as well. The Annual Report was filed on June 13, 2005.
Work on the parkway going north from 21st Street on the east side of Washburn is progressing. (As of these minutes getting typed, they are to 12th street on the east side of Lane.) The turn-on is tentatively scheduled for mid September. Don will get materials to tom Ellis for a release of some sort. Replacement of the luminaries (light bulbs) will be a continuing issue.
We will work on resubmitting our proposal for Phase IV in November. Don, Don, Karen, and Jim will work on the application. We plan on holding some sort of Town Hall meeting to let people on the north end know what is going on: no date set for that event.
Cox Communications will provide lunch. Plans are to set it up at 17th & Washburn.
Ideas for work items: Redo the sidewalks done by the prison women (this should be a fairly quick project); Clean the public easement from Monroe towards 17th & Washburn; Clean the public easement from 10th Street towards 17th & Washburn; Lane Garden repair work; and Others as provided by email. WSGA will work on providing t-shirts for everyone.
We’ll work on coordinating tools from HND and WU.
We are still waiting on the water line installation. There is a check from Howard Dean at the Topeka community Foundation for $16,000, but to get it transferred we need the documentation from Matthew Sinovic. Christy is still waiting on the final list of donors for the story boards.
We discussed what kind of role we want to try to play in promoting more public art. Dave Wilson, Director - Kansas Arts Commission, is willing to work with us to fund more projects. We will invite him to the august Board meeting (9th). We discussed the idea of doing a mural on the Water Facility at 19th & Western… there are some walls that could be candidates for local murals. Frank Hoge discussed some of the ideas of involving local children in it. TAT would be advisory to Chesney Park on the design. We agreed that we want to continue to advocate for public art.
We discussed ideas for recognitions in October: Old Town gardens; 16th & Harrison renovation; 300 block of SW Western. Get ideas in now.
Next Board meeting is on August 9th at 7 PM.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.
People who are interested in improving the quality and image of Central Topeka, particularly people who live in or own property in the Central Topeka area from Monroe to MacVicar and 21st to the Kansas River, are particularly encouraged to attend. For further information, call 234-2883.
