TurnAround Team General Meeting – 23 November 2009 11 people in attendance. Duane Pomeroy called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. 1 – Delores presented the nominations for officers: Duane Pomeroy as Chair; Don Taylor as Secretary; and Linda Woolf as Treasurer. Motion to accept by Karen, second by Alex. Motion passed unopposed. The neighborhood groups haven’t finished their elections so the entire Board is not yet known. 2 – Presentations made by neighborhood groups: Tom Beneka for Chesney Park – they are working on boundary markers for next year, the Elmhurst panel on the Great Mural Wall was dedicated yesterday, “Chords & Oil” wants to do the next panel, they are a Target Area for Block Grant money, and they are working on infill housing; Barbara Leal for Tennessee Town –the Topeka Housing Authority will add 16 more units on Lincoln in the elderly housing complex; Don Taylor for Elmhurst – the NA was formed in the mid1980’ s, it has the oldest voluntary recycling program in the City, celebrating 100 years this year, Elmhurst Green was dedicated in May, homes tour was the 7th, and the Great Mural Wall panel was dedicated; Delores Smith for College Hill – the gazebo in Boswell Square Park was relocated from the Menninger property; Duane Pomeroy for Historic Holiday Park – homes tour on December 5 & 6, and the Woodward House is expanding by taking in the apartments on that side of the street. 3 – Karen reported on progress on the Washburn-Lane Parkway Project. The City received a stimulus grant to replace the existing lights with LED units. She suggested that we go out after the meeting and review potential replacements and rate them. The Phase IV application is due on December 30th . It will need to go the MPO TAC on December 3rd, the MPO on December 14th, and the City Council after that. Rogers moved to support the TE application and move forward, second by Delores. Motion passed unopposed. 4 – Bill Riphahn gave a presentation on what is new with Parks & Recreation. They have 97 permanent employees, 500 temporary / seasonal employees, and a $9.8 million operating budget to manage 102 parks and green spaces, 11.25 miles of city trails, and a huge collection of facilities across the City.
